    CAUV Heads to SAUC-E '11

SAUC-E '11This morning the Cambridge AUV team started the journey to SAUC-E 2011, with two of the team members left driving a car full of all our equipment and Red Herring. The rest of the team will fly out tomorrow morning to all meet in La Spezia, ready for the competition starting the next day.

After weeks of intense preparations, including lots of in-water testing time, the team is ready for the competition and this year hoping to battle for one of the top spaces. Most of the final hardware upgrades for this year's competition have been completed with only a couple of finishing integrations left to do when everything arrives in Italy. The in-water testing of the vehicle in the river Cam has also shown very promising results despite operating in very murky water, excellent practice for the conditions that we will experience in La Spezia. Throughout the testing Red Herring has operated very reliably and both pipe following and buoy circling, two of the competition tasks, are running smoothly.

During the five days of practice before the final qualification and competition runs at SAUC-E, we hope to be spending as much time as possible in the water further improving the software to allow us to complete most of the mission objectives. We will be posting regular updates on our progress throughout the week so check back to find how things are going.
